How AI interview practice helps employment providers support jobseekers

How AI interview practice helps employment providers support jobseekers

Emmanuel landed a job in care after practising for his interview with AI. Originally from Ghana, he had been using Lingly, an app for learning English for work. When his interviewer asked how he would support someone refusing care, he had already practised the situation. “I used what I learned from Lingly and it really helped,” he told us. The interviewer praised his answer, and Emmanuel was offered the job.

Emmanuel had spent the last few weeks talking to AI interviewers on Lingly, preparing him for that moment. He would walk around his local park practising English and getting feedback on everything he was saying anytime he made a mistake: "When I started my first module I had a lot of mistakes coming in but Lingly taught me how to sound more natural… that was the game changer.”

Emmanuel has spoken English all his life, but the English needed to pass a job interview in the UK can feel a world apart to what he grew up with in Ghana.

Throughout his time using Lingly, Emmanuel also had support from his employment adviser. Through Lingly’s dashboard, his adviser could follow his progress, see where he was struggling and check in on how he was getting on. The practice he did in the park then became part of their next conversation.

Practising the answers, building the confidence

Lily, another jobseeker using Lingly, had worked in HR herself. She understood what recruiters were looking for, but found the switch between Chinese and British interview styles difficult. Lingly helped her adjust the structure and tone of her answers, including learning to discuss weaknesses directly rather than being, in her words, “humbly” vague.

“The AI mock interview was a game-changer. It reduced my real interview anxiety significantly.”

For Lily, being able to rehearse meant she could work on how she expressed herself before facing an employer. As she explored a new industry, she also used Lingly to learn the vocabulary she needed to talk about the work.

What is Lingly

Lingly is an AI platform for practical English for work. Participants practise conversations on their phones, with learning tailored to their level, job goals and the areas where they need support. Practice is unlimited, and explanations are available in their first language.

We built it from our own experiences of living abroad. There is a whole world between the language you learn on Duolingo and the language you need to build a life in another country.

Lingly gives participants practice with the questions employers actually ask, the phrases colleagues use and the regional accents they will hear at work. They can get it wrong, understand why and try again, with their adviser there to support their progress.
